Waiohinu Farms (pronounced why-o-he-new), was created out of a genuine desire to bring rich, flavorful coffee from Hawaii’s most fertile and natural soils to coffee lovers around the world. We are the southernmost coffee farm in the United States and are located in the Kau district of Hawaii’s Big Island. Our farm is nestled in the cool slopes of the Mauna Loa volcano. The area tells a tale of rich Hawaiian history, as it’s the first landing spot of the Polynesian Ocean voyagers.
We love our rural community of Naalehu, a slow-paced town that has maintained all the richness of Old Hawaii. Each morning, our farm is awoken by the tropical morning sun and cool winds. Although the area isn’t widely known, it’s one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets. It is a perfect growing environment for coffee, with ideal temperatures, natural spring waters, and rich volcanic soil. This results in coffee that is uniquely flavorful and rich.
Aside from being a perfect growing environment for coffee, the Kau region also yields phenomenal honey. What began as our son’s interest in having his own beehive quickly turned into a passion for honey. As of today, we have twenty beehives that yield completely natural and flavorful honey on our farm. Our bees live a great life and enjoy the tropical climate of Hawaii which helps them produce such high-quality honey.
